Luminate

http://www.luminate.com/

Luminate is a free tool to add text and hyperlinks to static pictures on the web. This can be used to take a student or class blog post with an image and make it a little interactive, users can create mouse-over events that pop up with text descriptions that can include dynamic content like URLs. Simple to use and easily add some life to static images on a blog or website.

First Blogger Post

This is my first blog post using Google's Blogger tool. Blogger has been blocked at our school until recently.

So, I have been using WordPress as my blogging tool of choice and I have been very happy with it.

I asked our technology coordinator to unblock Blogger so that I could create a blog and compare the two tools.

We are pushing the use of other Google tools (calendar, gmail, docs, etc.) and I thought that teachers might want to have everything under one roof.

At first glance, I think that our teachers will like the interface of Blogger much better. It seems really simple to add content, links, video, etc.

One thing that I will say about WordPress is the ability to create a mobile version of your blog that is easily read on a mobile phone.

I'm not sure at this point if Blogger allows that option or not.

I think that will be increasingly important as we move forward because of the number of parents and students that will want/need to access our blogs from their mobile phone.

Anyway, I'm taking Blogger for a spin and will keep you updated.

Meanwhile, check out my blog on Wordpress.
